The Great Outdoors
Ayr has loads of outdoor activities for families and those looking to appreciate nature. The Nith River runs right through our beautiful village and you can often see people fishing along the river banks or downtown at the Watson Pond where they stock the pond with trout every spring.
Stroll through Centennial Park and over the bridge and catch sight of some of the many wildlife - turtles, ducks, swans, and geese love making Ayr their home as well! Wander through the footpath that links Watson Pond to Jedburgh Dam and enjoy the peaceful views while relaxing on one of the many benches you’ll find around town.
Ayr has many walking and hiking trails - from Pipers Glen to Sudden Tract to Bannister Lake - there are too many to count! Pinehurst Conservation Area is a quick 10-minute drive if you are looking for beach fun at the lake, camping, hiking, and fishing.
Victoria Park in Ayr is a beautiful old Park nestled by the Nith River that showcases a tennis court, playground equipment, and two ball diamonds.
Ask any Canadian what their favorite sport is and you’ll most likely get the same answer: hockey! Ayr has two arenas that host both girls and boys hockey (adults and children!) and figure skating. Our new North Dumfries Community Centre not only has a beautiful ice surface, but also hosts an indoor walking track, outdoor splash pad, lighted soccer fields and exercise classes!
Not into hockey? The Ayr Curling Club offers curling for all ages and skills level. Baseball Fan? Ayr is home to numerous ball teams for all ages and levels! Soccer? Ayr offers outdoor soccer clubs for children and adults as well.

What does a typical evening look like in Ayr? Usually, you’ll see families walking their dog with babies in strollers, residents riding their bikes, the joggers getting in a few KM around town, kids playing street hockey and moms and dads enjoying a beer on their driveway chatting with their neighbors. Living in Ayr is a lifestyle like no other!
